Yeren

Also called Chinese wildman, Hubei wildman

The red-haired wild man of China's Shennongjia forests.

Shennongjia's mountain forests are the heartland of the Yeren, a tall, reddish-haired creature that walks upright. Reports in the 1970s led the Chinese Academy of Sciences to send several expeditions into the region.

The searches found hair and footprints but no conclusive evidence. Today Shennongjia is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Yeren is part of its tourist identity.
