Turtle Lake Monster

Also called Turtle Lake creature, Saskatchewan lake monster

A large, dog- or pig-headed lake creature reported about once a year in a Saskatchewan lake.

The Turtle Lake Monster is said to live in Turtle Lake in west-central Saskatchewan. Witnesses describe a long animal with no back fin, scaly or smooth skin, and a head like a dog's, a pig's or a seahorse's. Someone reports seeing it roughly once a year.

Local Cree tradition is said to include stories of people who went into its waters and vanished. In one well-known report, a man fishing with his daughter and grandson said its head and back came up and it rolled over, and its head looked like a seahorse's.

Fisheries biologists suggest a very large lake sturgeon, which can grow huge and live for a century.
