Rougarou

Also called Loup-garou, Roux-ga-roux, Cajun werewolf

The Cajun werewolf said to stalk the bayous, especially during Lent.

The Rougarou comes from the French loup-garou, a person cursed to take the form of a wolf. In Cajun and Creole tradition it hunts the swamps at night, and parents used it to keep children in line. Some versions say the curse passes to anyone who draws its blood.

Houma, Louisiana hosts an annual Rougarou Fest each October, celebrating the legend and raising money for coastal restoration.
