Chile set up a committee inside its civil aviation authority in 1997 to collect and study anomalous aerial phenomena as a flight-safety matter. It was renamed SEFAA in 2022.
It encourages pilots and air traffic controllers to report without stigma and publishes resolved cases with explanations. Its release of a 2014 Navy helicopter infrared video in 2017 drew worldwide attention.
