Reedsport, Oregon
The captain of the coal bark Estrella, with his wife and crew watching, said an 80-foot serpent as thick as a barrel swam by 200 yards off with its head and ten feet of neck raised, the neck covered in coarse hair like a mane. He fired his rifle at it; the shots fell short.
