Old Ned is the monster of Lake Utopia, a lake in southern New Brunswick near St. George and the Bay of Fundy. Local legend says that long ago two Maliseet men canoeing on the lake were chased from one end to the other by the creature.
It is described as long and bulky, more like a whale than a serpent, and is sometimes said to travel between the lake and the sea. A 1908 report by a schooner crew of a sea serpent in the Bay of Fundy near Cutler, Maine is often linked to it.
Other explanations include large fish, floating logs and waves.
