Memphré

Also called Memphre, Memphremagog monster, Lake Memphremagog monster, Mem

The cross-border lake monster of Quebec and Vermont, honoured on a Canadian coin.

Memphré is said to live in Lake Memphremagog, a long, deep glacial lake that crosses the border between Quebec and Vermont. It is usually described much like Nessie: a long-necked, humped animal with dark skin.

Local historian Jacques Boisvert founded the International Dracontology Society of Lake Memphremagog in 1986 to collect and study sightings. In 2011 the Royal Canadian Mint put Memphré on a coloured 25-cent coin.
