Momo

Also called Missouri Monster

A hairy, pumpkin-headed creature behind the summer scare of 1972 in Missouri.

In July 1972 three children in Louisiana, Missouri said they saw a hairy, dark creature with a large, pumpkin-shaped head carrying a dead dog along the edge of the woods. Over the next weeks dozens of residents reported odd smells, screams and sightings, and the press dubbed it Momo.

Momo reports faded by the end of the summer, but the case is a classic example of a short, intense local "flap".
