On the evening of 2 November 1966, salesman Woodrow Derenberger said a craft shaped like an old kerosene lamp blocked his truck on Interstate 77 near Parkersburg, West Virginia. A tall man with dark slicked-back hair, a deep tan and a glossy coat stepped out, smiled, and spoke to him without moving his lips. He called himself Cold and said, 'We mean you no harm.'
Derenberger told the story on local TV the next day, and others came forward describing a similar grinning man. Writer John Keel folded the story into his Mothman Prophecies, and Indrid Cold became a fixture of Point Pleasant lore. Derenberger later claimed trips to Cold's home planet, Lanulos.
