Gösta Carlsson said that in May 1946, walking home from the beach through the Kronoskogen pine forest near Ängelholm, he saw a light in a clearing and found a landed disc-shaped craft with small figures beside it.
Carlsson went on to found Cernelle, a herbal medicine company whose bee-pollen extracts made him a millionaire, known in Sweden as the Pollen King. He credited his success to the encounter but did not tell the story publicly until the 1970s.
In 1972 a memorial was put up at the spot: a concrete model of the saucer, the landing marks laid out on the ground and copper plaques. Investigators have found nothing to back up the account, but the town maintains the site and it has become a tourist destination and a national heritage site.
