A sheepherder hid in a tree and watched a man with knee-length matted brown hair, in tattered overalls, kill a grouse with a thrown stick and eat it raw. Chased on horseback, he outran the horse over the rocks. Papers suspected an escaped asylum patient.

A creature with a hairy man's face in Lake Kilby
Suffolk, Virginia
Returning from fishing, the president of Suffolk's city council and a companion saw something like a log come alive: an eight-foot body with a six-foot tail and a head shaped like a man's, with coal-black eyes, heavy brows and fuzzy yellow hair on the face.
