Two old fishermen caught a strange marine animal in the river above the Nashville waterworks and kept it staked and chained by the tail to the bank until it could be put on show near the square.

Two hundred people see a serpent off Lighthouse Point
New Haven, Connecticut
On a Sunday afternoon, more than 200 people at Lighthouse Point in New Haven said a 100-foot sea serpent, about fourteen feet around, swam close past several pleasure boats and headed for deep water. The paper joked that the Sunday liquor laws ruled out the usual explanation.

On two weekends in July 1952, radar operators at Washington National Airport and Andrews Air Force Base tracked unknown targets over the capital, including restricted airspace over the White House. Jets were scrambled; pilots saw lights that sped away.
