At about 10:30 a.m. on September 1, 1974, Edwin Fuhr was swathing a field near Langenburg, Saskatchewan, when he saw five saucer-shaped objects hovering about a foot off the ground near a slough. He first thought it was a prank and walked closer, then saw that the objects were spinning fast.
Fuhr said his swather would not restart, and he sat watching for about 15 minutes, too scared to move. The objects then took off very fast and in silence, leaving only a grey vapour.
The RCMP investigated and found five circles in the field matching Fuhr's description, with no physical sign that anyone had driven in to make them. The Royal Canadian Mint marked the event with a silver coin in 2024.
