Tatzelwurm

Also called Stollenwurm, Bergstutzen

A stubby, cat-faced lizard of Alpine legend.

The Tatzelwurm is a creature of Alpine folklore: a thick, lizard-like body with a cat-like face and only two or four short legs. Farmers reported it from the 1700s.

In 1934 Swiss photographer Balkin said he photographed one; the image was widely printed and later suspected to be a ceramic fish.
