Storsjöodjuret, or Storsie, is said to live in Storsjön, a deep lake in Jämtland in central Sweden. Witnesses describe a dark, serpentine body with humps and a head like a dog or a cat, sometimes with ears or fins.
A 1635 manuscript tells how a rune master bound a sea serpent to the lake bottom with a spell carved on the Frösö Runestone. Hundreds of sightings have been reported since the 1800s. In 1894 a company backed by King Oscar II tried to catch it with giant hooks and failed, and the traps are now in the local museum. From 1986 to 2005 the monster was even listed as a protected animal by the county.
In 2008 a film crew claimed an underwater camera recorded a warm-bodied mass in the lake.
