In July 1969, people around Lake Worth on the edge of Fort Worth, Texas reported a 'half-man, half-goat' with fur, scales and long clawed fingers. Newspapers reported it had jumped from a tree onto a car, leaving a long scratch, and later hurled a spare tire at a group of onlookers from a bluff.
Crowds of armed sightseers came out at night. Local resident Allen Plaster took a blurry photo of a white, furry shape that he later said was probably a prank. In 2005 an anonymous letter to the Star-Telegram claimed three high school friends had staged sightings with a tinfoil mask. Some researchers still think a real animal was involved.
The Fort Worth Nature Center has held a Lake Worth Monster Bash every October since 2009.
